Development of the methodology for determination of railway line capacity

The research project deals with development of the methodology for determination of railway line capacity. The methodology was adapted to suit the Slovenian railway infrastructure and traffic operations. The methodology is based on a new UIC 406 method. It was verified by comparison with another method's UIC 405 and a classical method

Measurement and evaluation of dynamic parameters between stations Ponikva and Dolga Gora – left and right track

A project of reconditioning of the railway line No. 30 Zidani most – Maribor – Šentilj – d.m. in the section Ponikva – Dolga Gora was conducted in 2008. The intention of the reconditioning project as well as of execution of the works was to raise the line speed of the section. One of the prerequisites to achieve higher speed is an execution of measurements of dynamics characteristics of the track. Measurements of dynamics characteristics was completed in November 2008 by using a tilting train composition 310 1/2. Measured dynamics characteristics of the track and data analysis prove the raise of the line speed to the designed speed to be feasible as well as sensible with respect to the anticipated run time savings. In the following, a report on measurement of dynamics characteristics of the track is presented and the analysis of measurement results is given.

Feasibility study of Beltinci – Lendava railway line

The project Feasibility Study of the Beltinci - Lendava railway line, Phase II shows with no doubt, that in Pomurje there is a potential, which as transit flows is sufficient for the construction of the railway line connection Beltinci - Lendava. The construction of the logistic terminal is foreseen west from the station Beltinci and the logistic centre on the area of the border crossing in logistic centre in Dolga Vas.

It proved that the most suitable connection is the variant B (length of the new line 21,70 km), which runs north from the settlements Beltinci and Odranci, and than turns north from settlements Velika Polana and Mačkovci and continues towards north entry of the station Lendava. Closely the variant B1 follows (length of the new line is 21,57 km), which differs from the variant B on the beginning (about 9 km), as its alignment runs south from settlements Beltinci and Odranci. Both variants have the so called south entrance to the station Beltinci (Lipovci) and the possibility of the triangle in direction towards Ormož.

The transport logistic terminals in Beltinci and in Dolga Vas could take over servicing of the local and wider economy. Reloading will include the containers, shipments of goods, agricultural products as well as combined transport in Dolga Vas. The last one in Dolga Vas is very important in connection with the construction of the railway line connection Beltinci - Lendava.

The problem and overcharge of highways will be solved by loading and unloading of trucks on the area of the border crossing in Dolga Vas. Here it must be emphasised that for the mentioned vision of modal-split the infrastructure measures described in this study are not sufficient, but also the adequate traffic policy of the whole country. This should prefer the environmental more friendly transport of freight on rails. Thus the highways could be free for passenger traffic.

With the better connections by the railways Pomurje will live in a new economic spirit, the people will live better, manage the economy more efficient and pull the region out of economic retardation.

Development of VIST train run simulation software tool

Design, development and implementation of engineering software tool for calculation of train timetables and for train run simulation. The tool is based on a new relational database model, which is part of the product. New version obtained a new title (VEIG 2.0 = VIST 1.0). Train run simulations are based on different input parameters to be varied through the database or on-line by a tool. Results of a simulation are presented in a form for on-line analysis. Beside that also a report can be generated in MS Excel format for further analysis. The tool is related to MS Office functionality where possible. The software was completed in 2006 but is updated and enhanced on regularly basis.

EU INTERREG IIIB: REDECON (REgional Development along COrridors and Nodes)

Development and implementation of an innovative tool (database and geographic information system). Grid-based database and GIS interface combines socio-economic, environmental and spatial data with accessibility data. The tool will allow public authority to analyze/simulate potentials and regional impacts on various goal populations (people, industry,…) based on chosen measures. The project was completed in 2008.
